In 1839 New York farmers had enough, after generations of living under what was basically a feudal system, with no hopes of ever owning their own land, left with no other options, they resorted to same tactics their grandfathers resorted to nearly 6 decades prior. They were clad in costumes made with dress fabric and leather skinned masks with various feathers and antlers stuck to them, they were known as Calico Indians, and they are the reason the large land monopolies in New York were broken up (for a time), and individuals could own their own land. This design blends the outfit worn by these Calico Indians, with the arms that would have been used by striking coal miners at Blair Mountain some 80 years later.
